In 2015, still a relatively new resident to Long Island and wanting to meaningfully connect with folks in my area, I started volunteering at a local food share called Community Solidarity.
An organization with diverse membership and still going strong in serving the people of Long Island for over a decade, Community Solidarity is dedicated to fighting hunger, poverty, racism and other social issues. It is also “America’s Largest Vegetarian Hunger Relief Program.”
I decided to get more of an inside scoop on the non-profit’s history, stories of community impact, and experiences of individual volunteers by interviewing a few of them including Community Solidarity co-founder Jon Stepanian.
